Woohoo today was eventful! Woke up at 11am then went down to novena square for Jewelry's autograph session. Jewelry is a Korean girl band that is fairly popular. I met up with Jon Lim and Shuang Ying to go there. I seriously never expected such a big crowd. Wells luckily I am quite tall so I snapped good pictures of them with ease. I didn't expect so many of the fans to turn up seriously... It was great and they even gave out mini posters to us for the girls to sign on. Whew, and I was worried about not having anything for them to sign on. The big trouble came when we had to queue up. Things got a little ugly but no worries haha I stood firm in the queue and finally me and Shuang Ying got the posters autographed!!!!
Our spoils of War! Yeah Man!
Just in case if you were wondering if I am a fanatic, no I ain't. Its just that it was near my house and I love their music so I decided to go for this event. It was really quite exciting, my first autograph session. You could feel the excitement in the air, Singaporeans shouting in Korean, the pure devotion and love that was exuding from the fans' pores! Haha! I wasn't tt crazy about them so I could take the time to observe LOL! When the queue started, people were so eager to get in front and didn't mind getting squashed. There was only one thing on their mind, to meet their idols and get their autographs.
I was just musing to my self after the entire event. What if people were like that for God? On fire? Eager to serve, meet him, doing anything to show that we value and love Him? Why would people go to that extent for pop stars whom don't know them personally and probably will never. They would never die for a fan right? The pop stars definitely don't care as much for their fans as much as God does. He sent his one and only son to die on the cross for us.
It says in Psalms 139:13-16
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Our God is a personal God, He knew us long even before we were born. He has a specific plan for each of us beforehand. He has plans to bless us, not to harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future. Why then, should we not give the devotion that we give to the different idols in our lives even more so in a multiplied amount to God?
Some people argue that God is not tangible. How do we know if he is real? I would say that it all starts with faith. This may sound cliche and you may already know this. But I want to ask you, do you really know what faith is? Faith is defined as - The theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God's will - (Christian context) in the dictionary. We exhibit faith in our everyday life without even realising it. Faith that our alarm clock will wake us up at the preset time. Faith that while we are sleeping, the ceiling will not fall on us. Faith that as we are walking, the ground would not give way and swallowing us up. it is with this faith that we get around to carrying out our lives and not live in constant fear. If you can have faith in these non-living things, why not take the plunge and have faith in God?
One reason why people can't experience God is because of their heart condition towards him. God will only bless and touch us to the same extent of our faith. Why is this so? Cuz in today's society, people are very skeptical of the things around them. People are fairly well educated generally, they try to use science and human knowledge to define and explain the things around them. Imagine if some christian performed a miracle, for example, making the lame walk at a prayer healing rally. How many people, Christians and non-Christians would really take this at face value and believe that indeed, this must be the work of God? No gimmick or show was put on merely to justify and make their followers believe in their God? I myself find it difficult sometimes to believe that the healing has indeed taken place, cuz i don't know the people being healed personally. There is always the though of "Wow! Hmmm... really?" Questions will start to appear and doubts start to settle in. This is the reason why we don't see as much miracles now as compared to the past like Moses parting the red sea or great revivals performed by the Acts church.
Perhaps, you should try as I often encourage the new believers or my sheep to keep a prayer journal. You can jot down your prayer points in the book. We humans are forgetful creatures and we sometimes even forget the prayers we have made, thus when God answers them we do not realise that. Christianity is a relationship with God and a relationship requires communication. We do it with God through prayer. The power of a prayer is not the words used itself. God will not answer your prayer faster just because you have used bombastic words and a fantabulous choice of words. The power of a prayer is in the conviction and faith that you have when you make the prayer. Answered prayers are great when you hear about them from other brothers and sisters, but even more amazing when you experience it yourself.
Start with the faith of a mustard seed. You will never know God personally and truly till you have faith. The crux of Christianity I believe is faith. This is the reason why people give their lives to serve in the church. Why people see the value in investing in the lives of others. Why we are still Christians on fire. We believe in one cause and we are working towards it because we see the value in it and have faith that God really exists and is not just a made up deity created to satisfy the needs of the people.
With all these said and done, the decision is in your hands. The choice to have faith or just to dismiss God and live a life without him. Remember, 'Faith can move mountains!!!!'
